Alida Frey was born and raised in Northern Virginia. Growing up, she spent her summers at camp in the Adirondacks of upstate New York, where she developed a curiosity for the magic of the woods and the idea of the untamed female. She received her BFA in painting and art history from Boston University in 2009. After completing a residency at the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, PA, in 2013, she moved to California by way of Brooklyn, NY. In 2014 she opened Harlequin Dime Studios in Felton, California. Today Harlequin Dime Studios lives nestled in the redwood mountains of Bonny Doon, California. There, with the company of three Great Danes, Alida continues to explore the magic of the wilderness in her paintings.
